Earth and Family

Be a good steward of the Earth AND your family’s health.

By Shelly Hackney

Job 12:7-10 - But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

The Bible shares how important the Earth is to Him, and to us—who have stewardship over it.

We are all aware of the dangers of toxins in common household cleaning products but what about skin and personal products? How certain are you that they do not contain chemicals that could be harmful to you and your children? CDC Organization

People have always said beauty is skin deep, meaning people might be beautiful to look at but inside might be far from beautiful. There is truth to that meaning. The Skin is the largest organ of the body. It acts as an interface between the internal and external environments. What products are you using that have chemicals in them? Absorption transports chemicals from the outer surface of the skin into both the skin and the body. Studies show that absorption of chemicals through the skin can occur without being noticed by you.

What you put on your skin absorbs into your body. Is there lead in lipstick? A number of metals, including lead, arsenic, mercury, aluminum, zinc, chromium and iron are found in cosmetics ranging from lipstick to whitening toothpaste, eyeliner, nail color, deodorant, soap, shampoo, hair conditioner, sunscreen, anti-wrinkle cream, moisturizer, foundation, face powder, blush, eye shadow, perfume, after-shave lotion and more.

Environmental Wellness is a concept to assist you in reducing the effects of toxins on your life and family. The chemicals that we use have to go somewhere. You wash clothes, your body and clean the house. Cleaning supplies are very harmful to you and the environment. Take a simple test to see what you have in your home: Toxin check list.

Most people are surprised at the amount of chemicals they come into contact on a daily basis. These chemicals not only have an impact on the health of our children but on the environment around us. A simple survey of what you use in your household will alert you to the dangers you face.
